Convictions and Disclosure and Barring Service Check (known as DBS)

BID Services/Deaf Cultural Centre carries out DBS checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 for every employee. Because of the nature of our work, this post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act Exceptions Order 1975. Note: The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure to employers, and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service website. In the event of employment, any failure to disclose convictions, cautions, reprimands, final warnings and pending court cases that are not 'protected' may result in dismissal or disciplinary action by BID Services/Deaf Cultural Centre.
